The 9th of May 2013 marks the 2nd annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day (#GAAD). The day is dedicated to getting people talking, thinking and learning about digital (web, software, mobile, etc.) accessibility and users with different disabilities.

We hear some strange things working in the accessibility space, like “the brief was to rebuild, not to improve; accessibility enhancements and features are out of scope”.
So how is it that in 2013 we’ve still got agencies referring to accessibility as “enhancements” or “features”?

Sometimes when people hear me talk about colour contrast I can guess what’s going on in their heads: “What’s the accessibility guy going on about now?”, but to me, colour contrast is one of the most important aspects of web design, not just accessibility.
